My Favourites

This is a space where I’ll provide an ever-evolving list of my favourite ‘go to’ sites, books and people on my self-improvement trip.

Apps and Podcasts

Screentime within your phone settings. (So simple but makes you very aware of what you’re spending your time doing and how much you emotionally use social media!)

Calm (Meditation, sleep and relaxation music, stories and masterclasses)
Tingle (ASMR app)

The Savvy Psychologist podcast (half an hour sessions on a vast range of topics so you can pick and choose areas you want to extend your knowledge and understanding.)

My Dad Wrote a Porno podcast (This may seem like a weird suggestion as it’s not a “learning” podcast. It’s rude, hilarious and has had me crying laughing. (It’s important to just zone out and laugh sometimes!)

Books

Captivate by Vanessa Van Edwards
The Chimp Paradox by Professor Steve Peters
Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl
5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins
Mindset by Carol Dweck
Grit by Angela Duckworth
Daring Greatly: How the Courage to be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent and Lead by Brene Brown (check out her TED talk too).

School of Life books – I have read several of these (“Self-knowledge”, “What is Psychotherapy?”, “Relationships”, “Phone Detox” Etc.) and with every page you think they are writing about you directly! Really connects what I have learnt through all the other books, Podcasts and so on.

If your workplace supports it:

I’m working in the public sector, and therefore access to the above website and counsellors/information all free through the ‘VClub’. Other workplaces will be members of Validium so it’s worth asking your wellbeing team.
